One Turkey Hill, Modern Interior finishes with a Traditional Exterior

Leifer Properties

Driving by One Turkey Hill Road South, also known as 1276 Post Road East, Westporters can see a commercial property for lease in Westport with a mix of retail and professional space. The 15,000 square foot location has inviting lobbies and offices with oversized windows and cathedral ceilings. Current tenants are an eclectic mix of professionals including architects, entrepreneurs, therapists, attorneys, accountants, marketers, and retailers.

What Westporters may not know is the story behind this historical locale. The building was actually the headquarters of the Sports Car Club of America. Started in Westport in the early 1940’s, the SCCA was formed to be a member motorsports organization for both club and professional events. Actively involved was well-known American entrepreneur and sportsman Briggs Cunningham. Cunningham was featured on the cover of Time magazine, owned the 1st Ferrari, built the Chrysler C-4R racing car, competed in a 24 hour auto race called Le Mans, and held an American Cup title from 1958. He was married to Lucy Bedford, daughter of Standard Oil heir F.T. Bedford, also notable members of the Westport community. Now 60,000 members strong, the SCCA is located in Topeka, Kansas after 30 years in Denver, Colorado.

Some Westport office space for lease at 1276 Post Road East has the original Mansion wood floors that have been expertly refinished. We believe Mr. Cunningham, along with prominent Westport auto racer and SCCA member for over 30 years, Paul Newman, would have been proud of our appreciation for this building and desire to share its’ history with our tenants and fellow Westporters.
